How often should I have my water system serviced?
It is recommended to have your water system serviced annually to ensure it operates efficiently and safely. Regular servicing helps identify potential issues before they become major problems, ensures compliance with water quality standards, and maintains the longevity of your system.
How often should I have my private water supply tested for bacteria and chemicals?
For properties used for commercial or public activities, such as holiday lets, hotels, livestock farms, or multiple properties supplied by a single water system, we recommend conducting a full water sample, including bacteria and chemicals, annually. For all other water systems, such as private homes, we advise taking a full water sample every five years.

What is chlorine dosing, and is it safe for drinking water?
Chlorine dosing is the process of adding chlorine to a water supply to disinfect it and kill harmful bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms. This process is commonly used in private water systems, public water supplies, and swimming pools to ensure the water is safe for consumption or use. Properly dosed chlorinated water is safe to drink. The amount of chlorine used in water treatment is carefully controlled to ensure it effectively disinfects the water without posing a health risk. In the UK, the maximum chlorine concentration allowed in drinking water is 5 mg/L (milligrams per litre), though most supplies are much lower than this.
Some people may notice a slight taste or smell of chlorine in their water, but this is not harmful and indicates that the water is being effectively treated. If you have concerns about chlorine levels, you can use a carbon water filter to reduce any residual chlorine in your drinking water.
How can I maintain my water systems after installation?
To ensure optimal performance, regularly service the system, monitor filters and treatment units, test water quality, inspect components, clean tanks and storage units, prevent freezing, use approved products, maintain documentation, and address issues quickly.
How do I know if I need a water softener?
You likely need a water softener if you notice signs of hard water like: visible scale buildup on appliances, frequent plumbing issues, dry skin and hair, spots or stains on dishes and fixtures, cloudy or rusty water, faded clothing after washing, and a noticeable film on bathtubs and sinks; the best way to confirm is to get your water tested to check its hardness level, with levels above 7 grains per gallon indicating the need for a softener.
How often should I replace a UV lamp in my water treatment system?
UV lamps in water treatment systems should be replaced once a year or after 9,000 hours of continuous use, even if the lamp is still glowing. Over time, the lamp’s ability to produce sufficient UV light to effectively disinfect the water diminishes, reducing its efficiency.
